Tips to optimize your Google My Business page

First of all, remember this: just as it is important to update your website regularly, the more complete and regularly updated your My Business page will be, the more it will be highlighted by Google.

This allows you to increase your visibility on Google and Google Maps, to increase traffic on your website and to update the Google info of your page. So don’t hesitate, follow our tips to improve your Google My Business page.

1 – A consistent name, address and hours

This is probably the easiest step, but it is also one of the most essential. Google appreciates that this information (name, address, hours) is consistent on the different portals and sites on which your business is present. To update it, go to the “Info” tab.

Make sure that your business name, address and opening hours are exactly the same on your website and on Google My Business.

2 – Schedule your GMB posts

Onevery good way to stay relevant and always give social signals to Google is to schedule and automate your post with a free GMB posts scheduler.

Gimby.io let you do that for free so sign up now and boost your rankings.

3 – Choose the right category

In the “Services” tab, you have the option to choose your main category, and associated services.

As a first step, find the most appropriate category.

Attention: it is not possible to select a category from a predefined list, you must find your category by testing the most relevant keywords. To help you, search for direct competitors on Google and see which category they have chosen!

4 – Add your services

Just below your main category, list all the services you offer. If a service is not listed, add your own custom service. For each of the services, feel free to go further by adding additional information for each one.

Tip: by doing this, you naturally add keywords directly related to your business. Don’t hesitate to draw inspiration from the pages of your website to make sure you list all your services (but don’t copy and paste!).

For example, a carpenter’s shop can list all its services: supply, installation of carpentry, bathroom renovation, window installation, manufacturing of custom carpentry, etc…

This way, you help Google to understand precisely your activity.

5 – Write a nice description

In the “Info” tab, you can add a description of your company of 750 characters maximum. Go ahead and take the time to write a nice description of your business.

Tip: it is advisable to insert your category within your description, as well as your location, region. You can remind some of your main services or your featured product. Try to stay natural, and don’t just add a succession of keywords.

Don’t forget that this description can appear on your company’s “Knowledge Graph” (see below ), which is largely fed by the information provided via your Google My Business page.

So take care of your description and encourage customers to learn more!
